What's Happening

The Panther Valley School District is excited to begin the 2024-2025 school year. Our district-wide theme, this year, is Every Panther is Connected (EPIC). It focuses on making sure every student is connected. As a community, we will work together to ensure all students reach their potential throughout the school year. We look forward to celebrating their scholastic, athletic, and extra-curricular achievements. It is going to be a great year to be a Panther.

About the Panther Valley School District

In 1964, Summit Hill, Lansford, Coaldale and Nesquehoning schools joined to form the Panther Valley School District.  Panther Valley consists of three schools, an elementary school located in Nesquehoning, an intermediate and junior senior high school located on route 209 in Summit Hill.  The Panther Valley School District’s colors are black, gold, and white.  The mascot is the panther.

Flexible Instruction Days (FIDs)

The Panther Valley School District has received approval from the PA Department of Education to utilize Flexible Instruction Days (FID) as an alternate approach to delivering instruction if a circumstance arises that prevents instruction in customary manner. The District may utilize the FID program when schools cannot open due to inclement weather (i.e. "snow day") or any emergency, such as a power outage.

When the Superintendent determines to utilize an FID, students will complete learning activities and assignments remotely instead of in school.

A FID will count as an instructional day for students, and the District may utilize up to five (5) FIDs in a school year.

How Will We Be Notified?:

  • When a FID will be utilized, the Superintendent will communicate via the phone utilizing the all call alert system and specify if a flexible instruction day is being used and what number flexible instruction day is being used.

How Will Attendance be Monitored:

  • To be considered in attendance for the day, students in the intermediate and junior senior high school will log into their google classroom to complete assignments provided by the teacher(s). Students in the elementary school will complete the work for that day in their packet and return it on the following school day.

  • For students in grades 4-12, families experiencing problems with Internet connectivity must email their child’s school’s attendance email by 10 am to report that their child will be absent.

  • For students in grades K-3, and your child is sick and unable to complete work, you should email [email protected].

  • Any student who does not log onto and complete their assignments in google classroom (grades 4-12) or return their completed written work (grades K-3) will be marked absent for that day.

What Will My Child Be Expected to do on a Flexible Instruction Day?

  • For students in grades 4-12, teachers will post asynchronous assignments on google classroom. Students in grades K-3 will complete work from the packets that will be sent home by teachers. Packets will be sent on or near December 6th, 2021. Students must complete all assigned work for the day on google classroom or in the packet.

  • Assignments for students with special needs will be developed utilizing their program modifications, specially designed instruction and supplementary aids and services identified in their individualized education plans. Any related services (Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech, etc.) which are unable to be provided asynchronously on the FID, will be rescheduled according to the frequency requirements of the students' individualized education plan.

How will my Student Get Support from Teachers on a Flexible Instruction Day?

  • All teachers and professional staff members will be available via e-mail during the typical school hours. They will also be available for office hours from 10:00AM -12:00PM. This includes special area teachers such as music, art, physical education, technology, special education, reading specialists, school counselors, nurses, and therapists, unless the individual is not working that day. The links to the virtual office hours will be posted on Class Dojo (grades K-3) or Google Classroom (grades 4-12). Students only need to access office hours if they need support with the assignments for that day.
